Test results decide whether a product is safe to reach the people who depend on it.

UboraLife exists to raise the quality and standardisation of testing in the food, water, pharmaceutical and environmental health sectors. Laboratory results confirm that a product complies with specifications, meets regulatory standards, and is safe for market — so those results must be both accurate and reproducible.

Through proficiency testing, quality-management training and trusted products, we help laboratories deliver dependable results — the foundation of stronger industries and a better quality of life for the communities they serve.

Proficiency testing

Scheme families across the food and water chain.

Each round provides blind test materials, statistical performance scoring against participating laboratories, and a report you can put in front of an assessor.

Why external benchmarks matter

Robust quality control keeps confidence in test results high — it avoids the unnecessary rejection of acceptable products and prevents defective ones from being released. Doing that well requires benchmarks a laboratory does not control itself.

Independent proficiency testing programmes and reference materials from credible third parties provide that external assurance. Consistently monitoring result reliability this way is a critical step towards achieving and sustaining accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025.

Questions

Proficiency testing, answered.

Short answers to what laboratories ask us most.

What is proficiency testing?

Proficiency testing (PT), also called an interlaboratory comparison program, gives laboratories an objective assessment of how accurate and reliable their test results are. Every participating laboratory tests the same homogeneous samples, results are compared with an assigned value, and each laboratory receives a confidential performance report. It also lets you benchmark your results against peers nationally or internationally.

Do I need proficiency testing for ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation?

ISO/IEC 17025 expects laboratories to monitor the validity of their results, and taking part in proficiency testing or other interlaboratory comparisons is one of the standard ways to do that. Regular PT gives you independent evidence of competence that customers, regulators and accreditation bodies recognise. Your accreditation body can confirm exactly what it requires for your scope.

Which PT programs can I enquire about?

UboraLife works with Global Proficiency, an independent provider of proficiency testing schemes accredited to ISO/IEC 17043:2023 by International Accreditation New Zealand. Programs cover dairy, milk and milk products; food and beverages; pathogens; water; and environmental and agricultural testing. The PT Inquiry Form lists each scheme, so you can select the ones that match your laboratory. Proficiency testing programmes from Global Proficiency are currently supplied through UboraLife to laboratories in Kenya. Laboratories elsewhere in Africa can use the same form and we will confirm availability.

How does enrolment work?

Send the PT Inquiry Form with your details and the programs you are interested in. We reply with scheme information and a quotation, which covers packaging and freight as well as the sample sets. Once you accept the quotation, your enrolment is confirmed and you receive the details for your chosen programs.
